İDO Istanbul Sea Buses Industry and Trade Inc. was established in 1987 by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to provide a solution to Istanbul's traffic problem. Today, with its 53 vessels and 35 terminals, İDO is one of the world's leading transportation sector and ferry operators. Based on the provisions of the Privatization Law, 100% of İDO Inc.'s shares were transferred in 2011 to TASS Joint Venture, in which Akfen Holding holds a 30% stake. İDO has vehicles operating on a total of 17 routes, 11 of which are sea buses, 2 are car ferries, and 4 are ferry routes, used for passenger and vehicle transportation. İDO's fleet has a capacity to carry 36,211 passengers and 2,790 vehicles.
Fast ferries in the transportation field served by İDO are highly preferred by passengers and passengers with vehicles due to the very short travel times they offer to desired destinations. İDO's fleet includes 9 fast ferries of 5 different types. Among the fast ferries, the Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi ferries are used on the Yenikapı-Bursa route. These ferries have a passenger capacity of 1200 people and a vehicle capacity of 225 vehicles. The catamaran-type fast ferries have a speed that reaches 37.4 knots per hour.
